Overview of role

To plan, organise and manage the implementation of business development and client relationship management strategies in accordance with BDC’s mandate and strategy locally and regionally. This should be conducted in alignment with the sector focused investment approach of the Corporation, which seeks to drive successful investments, export development, citizen economic empowerment, economic growth and diversification. Advocacy for policy changes in the investment climate including investment promotion and export development form an integral part of this role. The role will support the Investment mandate, policy and related strategies, which are underpinned by sound due diligence and financial structuring in order to optimise return on investment within the defined risk appetite and provide professional advice and recommendations to the Investments Committee.

Job description

Policies and Strategies

  • Contribute to the development and review of the BDC strategy
  • Contribute to the development of the sector focused business development strategy targeting investment opportunities locally, regionally and internationally

Business Development

  • Assist with the identification of investment opportunities and prospective investment opportunities locally, regionally and internationally
  • Target a number of clients from targeted sectors using BDC selection criteria

Export Development

  • Assist in identifying clients that are ready to export services and products regionally and internationally Prepare Investment Committee and Board papers on investment opportunities and feasibility studies for management and the Board of Directors to consider
  • Oversee disbursements to approved projects as well as monitor project progress with the assistance of the Post Investment function

Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

  • Manage close working relationships with clients through regular business calls and client visits in alignment with the client engagement strategy of BDC
  • Maintain accurate client information including contact details, current business performance, export readiness and future business opportunities

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Utilise departmental dashboards to monitor performance against set targets and reports periodically in progress achieved


  • Undertake other such duties as directed by the supervisor

Requirements, Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in Business Administration, or Economics / Commerce degree combined with equivalent business related qualifications
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in an accounting environment with a focus on accounting, advisory/ business development, financial audit or transaction experience, with a minimum of 2 years being in a senior/ executive management level
